Climbing Wall Assistant

Climbing Wall Assistant Qualification

This course is new in 2019 and is aimed at those who would like to help Climbing Wall Award holders and Climbing Wall Instructors when they are working with groups. It is a one day course which will cover basic skills such as fitting harnesses, tying knots and safe use of belay devices. There is NO expectation that completion of this course implies that the person is fully responsible for the safety of others.. That responsibility will lie with the instructors that they assist. The course is likely to be particularly appealing to parents of keen climbers, people who work with scout, guide or youth groups and teachers. Finally, there is no expectation that the candidate climbs either before during or after the training course. This is because Mountain Training recognise that there are some who are not climbers themselves but keen and able to assist others develop.

There is no separate assessment course for this award. During the training course the instructor will assess and advise on the candidates competences.
