Newcastle Climbing Centre will be staging Round 12 of the BMC Leading Ladder between 16th & 31st March 2013.

The BMC Leading Ladder is a fun lead climbing competition running at 37 UK walls until the end of March 2013. Each round runs for a 16 day period. That means you can travel around the country and take part in leading competitions right throughout the winter – a great way to get fit, and stay fit!

How does it work?
Routes will be clearly marked and anyone using the wall may climb them. But to take part in the BMC Leading Ladder you need to purchase a scorecard for £1 from the hosting wall, record your score, and return your scorecard to the wall at the end of that round.  Trying the routes before buying a scorecard is cheating!

Routes & Categories
Each hosting wall sets 10 routes for the 16 day period: F5+ / 6a / 6a+ / 6b / 6b+ / 6c / 7a / 7b / 7c / F8a.  If you have feedback on any of the routes please let the relevant wall know.  Competitors select one ability category for the season from the three below.  Points will be entered into the scoring system for your chosen category:

• A is for climbers who lead indoor routes in the grade range F5+ to 6b.
• B is for climbers who lead indoor routes in the grade range F6b to 7a.
• C is for climbers who lead indoor routes in the grade range F7a to 8a.

There will be separate categories for male and female climbers, and two age categories – under 16 and 16 and over on 31st December 2012, making twelve categories in total.

Scores and results

Results: Rounds 1 to 8

You can go to as many walls as you like, your average score from your top two scoring rounds will be taken.  A climber’s average score over the whole series will only be used to determine whether they should be moved up a category.

Once you have completed your scorecard for a wall please hand it back to them no later than at the end of that round.  They will then send the scorecards back to the BMC to enter in to the results.
